Electrical and Computer Engineering

The College of Engineering at Michigan Technological University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department to begin July 1, 2020.

The Chair will lead the Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty in their mission of excellence in education, research, and service.

We seek an individual with the vision and experience to elevate the department’s prominence in research within the fields of electrical and computer engineering, further our strong tradition of education excellence, and grow our MS and PhD programs.

The Chair is the chief administrative officer of the department and is responsible for the department’s administration, hiring, promotion and budget as well as being the leader in continuously improving the culture of inclusion and excellence in teaching and research. The Chair serves as the primary liaison between the department and the rest of the University and external constituents, and is expected to foster collaborations both internal and external to the university that advance the department’s mission.

An earned PhD degree in electrical or computer engineering or a closely related field is required.

About the Department

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 649 undergraduate students, 162 graduate students, 28 faculty, and 11 support staff. The department has active research programs in image and signal processing, remote sensing, robotics, communications and sensor networks, electric energy systems, and electrophysics, and is housed within 50,000 sq. ft. of contiguous space. Electrical and Computer Engineering is one of nine departments in the College of Engineering. The college has a total of 3690 undergraduate students and 801 graduate students, while the University has enrollments of 5828 undergraduates and 1375 graduates.
