Biological Sciences

Get your feet wet.

Biologists study life and living organisms—how they function, their origins and evolution, and the ways in which they interact with other living things and the environment. You’ll learn the basics of cells, genes, and organisms and apply it to the real world—whether you’ve got your sights set on medical school, advanced graduate work, or a career in industry.

Located amidst diverse ecosystems teeming with life—waters, forests, wetlands, and more—Michigan Tech is a prime location to study biology. Get outside and gather your own data. Use molecular tools to grow, modify, and characterize plants, animals, and microorganisms in the lab. Conduct your own research or work with a faculty member on theirs. You can also earn a master’s in one additional year through the Accelerated Master’s program. Interested in medical careers? Michigan Tech’s 65 percent acceptance rate is well above the national average.

"It’s understandable that medical schools like Tech students, since we have already mastered these personal skills in our undergraduate experiences that they expect in medical students." Erin McKenzie, accepted into medical school
