Transfer Students

At Michigan Technological University, you apply as a transfer student if you have taken at least one college course following high school graduation (even if you did not complete the course). Students enrolled in an early/middle college program are considered first-year students for admission and scholarship purposes.

If you’re looking to transfer, this is a great place to be. Learn more about Michigan’s flagship technological university and how you can become a Michigan Tech Husky.

Apply to Michigan Tech

We strive to make the application process for transfer students as easy and seamless as possible.

To get started, fill out our free transfer student application and request to have your official college transcript(s) sent to us—including your official high school transcript if you have not completed an associate’s degree or higher at the time of application. The ideal time to fill out your application is the semester before you plan to enroll at Tech.

Transfer Credit

We know that a major part of your decision to attend Michigan Tech is understanding how (and if) your credits will transfer. Transfer credit is granted for appropriate courses completed at another accredited institution with a grade of C or better. Upon acceptance, your official college transcript(s) will be sent to the Registrar’s Office for review by Transfer Services staff, and details will be posted to your student account.

We understand if you’d like to get an idea of how your credits will transfer before you apply—and we’re ready to help. Browse these resources to get started and reach out to transfer@mtu.edu if you have questions.

Transfer Guides

Our transfer guides are designed to provide you with an outline of classes that can be taken at a variety of community colleges. You are not required to complete all of the classes listed on the guide before enrolling at Michigan Tech.

Transfer Equivalency

Find the institution granting credit for your course(s) and see if and how credit would be awarded at Michigan Tech. All courses are based on historical data, so if you don’t see your course or institution, that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t earn credit.

Michigan Transfer Agreement

Students who successfully complete the 30-credit-hour Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) at a Michigan community college may transfer all 30 credits to satisfy a portion of the general education requirements at Tech.

Non-Michigan transfer students from Northcentral Technical College (NTC) and the six campuses of Minnesota North College may be eligible to receive reduced tuition costs at Michigan Tech. Contact your regional admissions manager to learn more.
