Michigan Technological University maintains a full-time transfer services office for students intending to transfer courses to Michigan Tech.
All incoming transfer students must submit an application for admission and an official transcript(s) to the Admissions Office.
The university considers collegiate credit as transfer credit once it has been evaluated and determined that it meets accreditation standards.
Transfer credit is granted for courses in which a grade of 'C' (2.0) or better has been earned and where course are equivalent in content and length to those offered at Michigan Tech. Credit may also be given for grades of pass/P providing the pass/P is defined as being equal to a grade of 'C' (2.0) or higher and it is the only grade mode offered for the course.
Only records of active, degree-seeking students will be updated with transfer coursework.
In order to process transfer credit, an official transcript from the transferring institution is required. For new incoming students, the transcript should be sent to Admissions. For returning students, the transcript should be sent to Transfer Services.
Students planning to transfer their final credits to complete degree requirements at Michigan Tech must obtain approval by completing thedegree completion transfer form.
Students planning to transfer a course that fulfills an approved Michigan Tech prerequisite should email a screenshot of their registration from the transferring institution to Transfer Services. This screenshot must include the institution name, student's name, course number and credit value. The course will be added to the student's record as temporary transfer credit with a grade of 'IS' (in session), allowing the student to register for courses with the prerequisite.
Reverse transfer allows a student to attain an associate’s degree from a Michigan community college while pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Michigan Tech. A student may be eligible to transfer Michigan Tech credit back to a previously attended community college in Michigan. The Michigan Tech credit may count towards both the associate’s and bachelor’s degrees concurrently.
Michigan Tech has agreements with five Michigan community colleges. Please view the transcript release forms from each of the community college partners below:
