
Though scholarships are the most familiar and sought-after form of financial aid, they are not the only resource available to help you cover the entire cost of attendance at Michigan Tech. Nearly 90 percent of our students receive financial aid, which can include a combination of scholarships, grants, loans, employment, and more.

Grants
Grants are gift aid based on need and are available to US citizens and permanent residents. Accepted students are automatically considered for grant programs if their FAFSA results are released to Michigan Tech. Students must apply for grant renewal each year by re-filing the FAFSA.
FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows you to apply for need-based federal and state financial aid on an annual basis. Students who file a FAFSA by December 1 will receive an award notification starting December 31.

Loans
Loans are borrowed money which must be repaid. They are available to most US citizens and permanent residents. Each loan program has certain maximum limits for borrowing; however, students may not borrow more than the cost of attendance.
Accepted students are automatically considered for loans if their FAFSA results are released to Michigan Tech and they indicate an interest in receiving loans on the FAFSA. Students must apply for loan renewal each year by re-filing the FAFSA and making progress in obtaining their degree according to the Satisfactory Progress Policy.
Co-ops and Internships
Co-ops and internships are also popular options for students. Students often find these opportunities during our fall and spring Career Fairs, where 415 companies visit campus annually to recruit Michigan Tech students for co-ops, internships, and full-time jobs. The average co-op salary for Michigan Tech students? More than $20 per hour.

Student Employment
Many students at Michigan Tech take on part-time jobs to gain skills and experience and help pay for college. On-campus jobs (including Federal Work-Study positions) are available year-round, as are many local off-campus jobs.

ROTC
Michigan Tech offers opportunities in both Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC. In addition to leadership and military training, cadets in these programs can earn scholarships to help cover the cost of their education. Scholarships for high school students are awarded on a competitive basis.
