Biologists study life and living organisms—how they function, their origins and evolution, and the ways in which they interact with other living things and the environment. You’ll learn the basics of cells, genes, and organisms and apply it to the real world—whether you’ve got your sights set on medical school, advanced graduate work, or a career in industry.

Located amidst diverse ecosystems teeming with life—waters, forests, wetlands, more—Michigan Tech is a prime location to study biology. Use molecular tools to grow, modify, and characterize plants, animals, and microorganisms in the lab. Interested in medical careers?   • Get involved with undergraduate research in areas such as population and restoration of fish, nutrient cycling in streams, and the impacts of mining and climate change on Zooplankton.
  • Assist faculty in the Great Lakes Research Center, a state-of-the-art research facility that is the hub of investigative research for faculty interested in water, atmospheric science, and conservation research.
  • Help other students in the Biological Sciences Learning Center.
