A part-time job is a great way to earn money to help pay for school, books, pizza, and other college necessities. It’s also a great way to hone your communication, leadership, and customer service skills.
All students, regardless of financial need, may apply for part-time University-funded positions. Jobs range from reception desk staff members to campus tour guides, learning center coaches, and retail positions across campus. You can apply directly to the desired departments after arriving on campus. On average, 2,000 to 2,500 students are employed on campus each year. Nearly every department—academic and administrative—employs students. See the local jobs resources on the Career Services website for more information.
Federal Work-study Program
Federal work-study employment opportunities are on-campus jobs available to students who are US citizens or permanent residents and who have financial need. Accepted students are automatically considered for work-study if their FAFSA results are released to Michigan Tech and they indicate on the FAFSA they wish to be considered for student employment. Students must reapply for work-study each year and must meet the Satisfactory Progress Policy requirements. Students normally work eight to 10 hours per week during academic semesters, and a maximum of 40 hours per week during the summer.
Local Off-Campus Jobs
Employment opportunities are also available in the local community—retail, restaurants, and everything in between. See local jobs resources on Career Services website for more information.
