My Michigan Tech: Abby Schwartz

One of the best STEM schools in the country. Employers know us by name. So do students like Abby, who discovered Michigan Tech through our Summer Youth Programs and is a chemistry major currently doing research in organic synthesis with one of her professors.

Design. Create. Produce.

Chemists create the fabric of our everyday lives (sometimes literally), contributing to the production of chemicals, materials, and products. You’ll be prepared to contribute to the nucleus of chemical advancements in diverse fields.

Choose from either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry at Michigan Tech. As a BA major, you’ll have a liberal arts degree that provides you with a foundation in the chemical sciences while also allowing you to pursue other interests. If you’re looking to continue on to grad school or a career in the chemical sciences, the BS degree is your best option. The BS program allows you to specialize your studies with concentrations in environmental chemistry, biochemistry, polymer chemistry, or chemical physics.

In either program, you'll start research as soon as you're ready. Get familiar with labs and instrumentation. Create products and work with companies on the Consumer Products Manufacturing Enterprise Team. You can also earn a master’s in one additional year through the Accelerated Master’s program.

"I really enjoy the Michigan Tech community, the Husky pride, and the Houghton area." Alyssa Cinder, Chemistry
