Finding a Place Where You Matter
Looking back, one of the things finance major Elijah Joseph is most proud of during his time at Tech is the work he’s done with the Economics Club as president. During his senior year, he helped coordinate two major trips: one to Milwaukee, to visit Russell Investments, and another to Chicago, a collaborative effort with Tech’s Finance Club and KSI (Kappa Sigma Iota) Accounting Club that included visits to William Blair, JMG Financial, and the Federal Reserve.
During his time on campus, Elijah was also involved with Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Programs. He helped build a curriculum for students in grades 9-11 focused on real-time trading simulations—where students weren't just watching, they were doing. He led lectures on financial derivatives, using slides and worksheets he created to break down complex topics like options into something anyone could understand.
"I chose Tech because it felt like a place where I'd matter, where I'd belong, and where people would actually invest in me as much as I was investing in my education. That gut feeling was spot-on. From professors who know you by name to opportunities I never imagined I'd have, Tech has delivered on everything that made it feel special from the start."
