Civil Engineering

Plan. Design. Build.

Civil engineers are the people's engineers and are responsible for planning, designing, building, and managing civil structures including critical infrastructure like roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supplies, and sewage systems. Prepare to work in a wide range of job environments, from high-end computing in office settings to managing the construction process in the field.

Work with indigenous communities. Design river crossings and water systems. Experiment with civil engineering materials and advanced technologies in the pilot-scale environmental simulation lab. Design build, and race award-winning concrete canoes in a national competition. Join the Built World Enterprise and compete in civil and environmental design competitions. Participate in the innovative Rail Transportation Program. Choose a focus area to customize your degree: construction, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation, or water resources. Add a minor in humanitarian engineering, municipal engineering, rail transportation, or surveying. You can also earn a master's in one additional year through our Accelerated Master's program.

"My major gives me the opportunity to be outside and work in the field, and to be creative and open to new experiences and jobs." Ali Gering, Civil Engineering
