Biography

Dr. Muhammad Rizwan is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Tech. Dr. Rizwan’s research program strives to understand how cells interact with the engineered hydrogel biomaterials in 2D and 3D microenvironment, and what factors induce stem cell differentiation, cellular growth and self-assembly, thereby leading to organized tissue formation. He received BSc in Materials Engineering from University of the Punjab, Pakistan (2009), MSc in Bio-nano Engineering from Hanyang University, South Korea (2012) and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from National University of Singapore (2017). His PhD thesis focused on developing corneal tissue engineered graft. Dr. Rizwan is a recipient of the prestigious Singapore International Graduate Award for doctoral research, University of Toronto Research Excellence Award, and has published 22 peer-reviewed research articles and one book chapter, and presented in 12 international conferences.
