Biography

Yixin Liu is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and Affiliated Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University. Her research focuses on developing low-cost, robust chemical and biological sensing technologies by integrating functional materials, sensor devices, and computational and data-driven approaches. A major focus of her group is synthetic recognition materials for scalable biosensors and sensor arrays, with applications in healthcare, food safety, environmental monitoring, and energy systems. She is a recipient of an NIH NIGMS Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA), supporting her research on multiplex biomarker detection using low-cost synthetic biosensor arrays.

Before joining Michigan Tech, Liu spent five years at the ABB U.S. Corporate Research Center developing chemical sensing technologies for industrial applications. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. She also serves on the Early Career Editorial Board of Sensors and Actuators Reports.
