Mail Services

Mail is delivered and picked up on weekdays from the mailroom located in each building. See the pickup and delivery schedule for more information.

Make sure the employee's name and department are clearly visible on the envelope or box. If you are using an inter-campus envelope, make sure all previous recipient information is crossed off—be sure to check both sides of the envelope. Place campus mail in your department mailbag to be picked up.

If the box is between 25 and 70 pounds, email mailservices@mtu.edu one business day before pickup is needed. Packages weighing 70 to 99 pounds can be dropped off at mail services in the Administration Building, or you can arrange for delivery to mail services through facilities.

Packages weighing 100 pounds or more cannot be shipped through mail services. Contact central receiving for freight shipping options.

Domestic mailings to lists of 200 or more names may qualify for the nonprofit bulk rate. Lists of 500 or more names may qualify for the first-class bulk rate. Learn more about mail processing.

First, check for email notifications from UMC’s Parcel Tracker or log in to your Parcel Tracker account to see if your package has arrived on campus. Packages are delivered to the mailroom for your department, not to your office. Please check with your department mail coordinator regarding the status of daily mail deliveries. UPS packages will be delivered directly to your building if the building name was included on the package label. Check with your department coordinator to verify if the package has been delivered. If the building name was not included on the label, the package was likely delivered to central receiving.

FedEx packages are typically delivered to central receiving and will be delivered to your building  during their next scheduled run.

In addition to the shipping address, the mail services team needs additional information such as your preferred carrier, delivery service (standard, 2-day, next-day), and University account index to accurately and efficiently prepare your package for shipment. Please complete a Package Shipping Form for each package and attach the form to the package(s). We will send you tracking details when your package has been prepared for shipment.

Return labels for UPS or FedEx can be created for University staff and faculty who need to have a package shipped back to campus. You will need to know all shipping details, including the physical dimensions and weight of the return shipment, when you complete the Return Label Request Form.

If the employee has retired or left the University and the department doesn't want the mail, the mail can be recycled. If the employee has moved departments, please cross out the old department, write the new department name on the mail, and return the mail to mail services.

Please email mailservices@mtu.edu to notify us of your new department. It is your responsibility to update your delivery information with any external organizations or companies you receive mail and/or package shipments from to ensure your new department information is included in shipping details.

Mail and package delivery to the residence halls and University apartment buildings is coordinated directly with the carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx). Contact deskcoordinator@mtu.edu for assistance. You may need to work directly with the carrier for additional assistance. mail services will not have additional information.
