Disclaimer: The requirements outlined in this category serve as general institutional guidance. Because chemical properties and reactivity vary, Principal Investigators and lab personnel must review the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for chemical-specific handling, containment, and protective equipment protocols that may supersede these general rules.
Examples
- Dimethyl Sulfate
- Osmium Tetroxide
- N-Nitrosodimethylamine
Storage Requirements
Stored inside a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or specially coated wooden acid cabinet.
Incompatible Chemicals
Strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, strong bases, heat, and open flames.
Examples include Nitric acid, Sulfuric acid, Sodium hydroxide, open flames/sparks.
PPE Required
- Chemical splash goggles
- Lab coat
- Face shield
- Glove type varies between chemicals. Please refer to the SDS for the specific chemical you’re working with.
- An additional engineering control must be a fume hood when operating with these chemicals.
