Whether you are looking for options to navigate around campus, throughout town, travel
across the Upper Peninsula, or catch a bus to some of our neighboring cities, there
are variety of options available to you.
Michigan Tech Services
During the fall and spring semesters, Transportation Services provides scheduled route service on campus and throughout Houghton and Hancock. Shuttle schedules vary during breaks
and the summer semester. All routes and schedules can be accessed from the Shuttle Services website.
Each major break during the Fall and Spring semesters, the Undergraduate Student Government charters large buses to transport students to and from Lower Michigan and Wisconsin / Chicago. This service occurs during Fall (Thanksgiving) Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break.
Tickets are first come, first serve, and will be sold in advance of the trip. All
undergraduates will receive an email about the opening of the Break Bus ticket sales. More information is available by clicking here.
Michigan Tech Athletics offers a free shuttle throughout campus during home hockey games. The hockey shuttle begins one
hour before game time and has stops near the residential halls before it concludes
at the Student Development Complex. For route information and schedules please check

Safe Walk provides a safe, escorted walk or ride to and from campus locations. If you feel unsafe walking on campus at any time or for any reason, please call Public Safety and Police Services (906-487-2216) to request a Safe Walk. The service if free of charge.
Bicycling at Michigan Tech is an ideal way to get around and have fun. We’re working
to make it easy and convenient to use a bike for transportation to and from campus, as well as provide parking and
other facilities on campus.
Michigan Tech provides several bike racks, covered bike shelters, and winter storage options throughout campus. There are also complimentary bicycle repair stations located on Phoenix Drive, two on the main Campus Core, one at the Main Trailhead, and one
each in both Upper and Lower Daniell Heights.
All bicycles are required to be registered with Public Safety and Police Services.
The Office of Sustainability and Resilience encourages campus-goers to seek alternative transportation methods whenever possible. Walking, biking, and even snowmobiling help minimize traffic congestion in Houghton and provide an enjoyable experience.
Outside of the services that Michigan Tech provides, there is a large array of transportation
options available to the campus community.

City of Hancock Public Transit
Hancock City Transit is an on-demand bus service that is an easy, inexpensive and convenient way to get
around in the cities of Hancock, Houghton, and Michigan Tech. Call Hancock Public

The BHK Community Action Agency provides limited bus services in the Houghton and Hancock area. Community Action
Transit Service also provides services to and from neighboring communities including
Calumet, Laurium, and Lake Linden on the north end of the county along with Chassell,

Disabled American Veterans Medical Transportation
If you are a disabled military veteran, the DAV provides free transportation to and from medical appointments. In Houghton County,
you can contact the Houghton County Veterans Affairs Office at 906-482-0102 for more information.
Mercy EMS Non-Emergent Medical and Wheelchair Transport
Mercy EMS offers a Non-Emergent Transportation service for those who may need assistance getting
to medical appointments. They also offer a Wheelchair transport service for those
who may be wheelchair bound (but NOT required) and do not have the means to get to

Stuck Huskies is a Facebook group to help find students a ride to or from Houghton. Reach out as someone might just
be driving your way. You can post a message to their Facebook wall to find ride shares,
bus buddies, hotel roommates, or anything else you might need on your journey. (Stuck

Located about ten minutes north of Houghton at the Houghton County Memorial Airport,
Enterprise Rent-A-Car offers several options including one-way rentals and numerous vehicle choices.
U-Haul Truck & Van Rental
U-Haul is known nationally as the go-to stop for do-it-yourself household moving,
but did you know that U-Haul also rents pickup trucks and vans? There are several

Regional and National Services
Indian Trails Route Bus Service
Indian Trails operates bus routes throughout Michigan. With their daily scheduled service, you
can travel comfortably throughout Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas, as well as
to or from Chicago, Duluth, and Milwaukee. Daily runs connect directly with both the
Amtrak and Greyhound national networks, connecting you with some 60 other bus transportation
companies in the U.S. and Canada. Indian Trails tickets can be purchased online or
at the Shottle Bop in Hancock. The local bus stop is located on campus at the Memorial Union Shuttle Stop.
Houghton County Memorial Airport
The Houghton County Memorial Airport provides airline service to Chicago O'Hare Airport multiple times daily. As Michigan's northernmost airport, Houghton County Memorial Airport (CMX), is located
in Houghton County right in the heart of the Keweenaw Peninsula, just 4 miles from
the cities of Houghton/Hancock and 7 miles from Calumet. Airline service is provided
by United Airlines.
