FY27 Campus Parking Adjustments

Parking Changes FY27

Parking adjustments go into effect July 1st, fully implemented by the start of the Academic Year.

The following parking changes will occur during FY27. For a visual of all the changes, view the Parking Changes FY27 map. For a visual of all the parking options on campus, view the Current Campus Parking Map. As we progress through the construction of the Wellness Center, more updates will be added.

Faculty/Staff (Red and Black Parking Permits)

The following lots will become faculty/staff lots for holders of Red parking permits:

  • Lot 5, between the Rozsa Center and East Hall, which was formerly a commuter lot
  • Lot 27, southeast of the Administration Building, which was formerly a visitor lot
  • Lot 14, between Fisher Hall and Walker Lawn, which was formerly a faculty/staff lot and will add 54 new faculty/staff spaces following the demolition of the Hamar House

Lot 12, south of the Memorial Union Building and the library, which was formerly a faculty/staff lot for Red permit holders, will now be a metered lot to accommodate losses of other metered spaces around campus.

Additionally, the west half of Lot 1, near the Administration Building, will become a faculty/staff lot for holders for Black parking permits. (Lot 11, where the new Chang K. Park Center for Student Wellness will be constructed, was formerly a lot for holders of Black parking permits.)

Residential Students (Blue Parking Permits)

Lot 26, west of the Noblet Forest Resources Building, which was formerly a commuter lot, will become residential lots for holders of Blue parking permits.

Former residential parking spaces in Lot 17, south of Wadsworth Hall, in Lot 24, west of the Gates Tennis Center, and in Lot 10E, at the east end of campus, will now be commuter spaces for holders of Green parking permits.

Standard Commuter Students (Green Parking Permits)

The following lots will become commuter lots for holders of Green parking permits:

  • Lot 10E, at the east end of campus, which was formerly a residential lot
  • Lot 17L, south of Wadsworth Hall, which was formerly a residential lot
  • Lot 24, west of Gates Tennis Center, of which 192 spaces were formerly residential

Former commuter parking spaces in Lot 5, between the Rozsa Center and East Hall, will now be faculty/staff spaces for holders of Red parking permits.

Through these changes, we were able to add an estimated 26 commuter parking spaces for holders of Green parking permits.

We encourage Green parking permit holders who park in Lot 24 to utilize the University-provided shuttle service, which offers convenient access to key campus destinations and areas close to academic and administrative facilities. To further improve access and convenience, the campus shuttle service will be adding a stop near the entrance to the Gates Tennis Center.

Guaranteed Commuter Students (Purple Parking Permits)

In response to increasing demand for parking across campus, adjustments have been made to the number of spaces allocated to the Guaranteed Commuter category, which represents our smallest permit group. Lot 34, located on Phoenix Drive, will remain available to support guaranteed commuters with Purple parking permits.

Former commuter parking spaces in Lot 5, between the Rozsa Center and East Hall, will now be faculty/staff spaces for holders of Red parking permits.

Access to Purple parking permits requires participation in our application process, which is based on student status, number of credits earned, and the time and date of application.

Metered Parking / Visitors

Metered parking is now available in Lot 12, located south of the Library and the Memorial Union Building. Lot 12 offers easy access to many academic, administrative, and event destinations. Visitors can easily pay for parking in Lot 12 directly from their mobile device.

Parking in Lot 12 is available through ParkMobile digital meters at a rate of $1.50 per hour, plus a $0.45 transaction fee per parking session. Clear signage is posted throughout the lot to assist with parking and payment instructions. We encourage those who prefer not to use their mobile device to contact Transportation Services at parking@mtu.edu or 906-487-1441. We will be happy to assist you with a non-digital parking option.
