Michigan Technological University has earned a STARS Silver rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.

 

Bicyle Friendly

 

 

 

 

In November of 2017, Michigan Tech has been named a Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists. This is a renewal of the Bicycle Friendly University designation earned by Tech in 2013.

How can I get involved in Sustainability and Resilience activities at Michigan Tech?

Sustainability is a top priority at Michigan Tech - "Sustainability & Resilience" is one of nine Tech Forward Initiatives supported by the Office of the President. You can read more about Sustainability at Michigan Tech on the University's Sustainability Blog.

The Working Group of the Tech Forward Initiative for Sustainability & Resilience (ISR WG) recognizes the work of the Keweenaw Youth for Climate Action (KYCA) has developed a Petition to ask Michigan Technological University to divest all funds from the fossil fuel industry. The efforts of the KYCA are aligned with the goals of Michigan Tech to demonstrate leadership in sustainability. The ISR WG endorses the effort and supports this call for Michigan Tech to begin the fossil fuel divestment process and improve transparency and participatory decision making regarding institutional investments. 

In January 2020, the Tech Forward Initiative on Sustainability and Resilience held a Listening Session to learn more about the concerns, priorities, and visions of campus and community members for the future of sustainability at Michigan Tech.
