Orientation at Michigan Tech helps you successfully transition to university life by helping you plan for academic success, understand campus resources, and find a sense of community. During orientation, you'll:
- Explore the campus environment and learn about available resources to support your success.
- Understand academic expectations, including your degree requirements, the importance of test scores and transcripts, and information about Essential Education.
- Connect with other students and staff to build your Michigan Tech community from day one.
This year Michigan Tech's Orientation is here for you with a fresh strategy. Beginning this summer, Orientation has two parts: Summer Session Orientation (Summer Session) and Fall Session Orientation (or O-Week). Both sessions are required.
As you prepare for your first year at Michigan Tech, we know that you have plenty of questions and we are here to help. If you have questions about either session, please contact orientation@mtu.edu.
Summer Session Orientation
Summer Session is 1.5 days long and there are four dates available. Registration for these dates is open. If you have paid your MTU deposit but have not already registered for a Summer Session, register now in your Husky Portal.
Summer Session Dates
- June 22-23
- June 26-27
- July 13-14
- July 17-18
Students need to choose only one of the four summer sessions. The Summer Session Orientation is when you will learn about the Essential Education program, spend time with advisors and faculty from your academic college, and start building your community at Michigan Tech.
Fall Session Orientation (O-Week)
Residence hall Move-In days are August 18 and 19.
Fall Session Orientation is August 20-23, 2025. This Fall Orientation Week is designed to help you to feel at home on campus to ensure a smooth transition to college life.
During O-Week, you will:
- build connections with your Orientation Team Leader (OTL)
- learn about Tech Traditions
- meet your new pack of fellow Huskies
- become familiar with campus resources, academic expectations, and life at Tech
