Parent and Family Orientation
The Wahtera Center is pulling together a library of resources for parents and families
to access starting on August 17 and throughout the academic year. While we will not
be hosting live sessions this year, we have prepared and collected some valuable information
to help you understand what your student needs to transition to and navigate their
Michigan Tech experience. We encourage you to find your topics of interest.
In addition, on Sunday, August 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m, we will be hosting an open
house with a limited number of student services offices including Career Services,
local healthcare providers, the ExSEL program, Student Financial Services, Student
Leadership and Involvement, the Registrar, and the Waino Wahtera Center for Student
Success. This program is intended to complement our online resources and serve as
an opportunity to take care of final business and ask questions or for more information,
as necessary. Additionally, the Center for Mental Health and Well-Being will be open
in the Administration Building. Throughout Move-In Weekend, Student Disability Services
will have times to schedule remote meetings.
We also encourage you to contact student services offices by phone or email prior
to your arrival through 5 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020, after that point many of
our student services staff will be helping support Check-In and Move-in.
New to orientation for 2020, podcasts provide an audio snapshot of areas of interest related to Michigan Tech.
We’ve asked campus departments to record popular sessions featured at previous parent
and family orientation programs.
These resources are handouts that the Wahtera has prepared especially for our parents and families or information that is supplemental to webcasts.
