The HRPP implements policies and guidelines regarding Human Subject Research (HSR) at Michigan Tech. The HRPP uses the narrow federal definition of human subjects research when determining whether or not research requires IRB approval.
If a project involves HSR, researchers must submit a protocol for Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval. HRPP administrators will talk with research team members to resolve ambiguities and correct omissions, and assign the submission to one of three types of review: Exempt, Expedited, or Full Board (see the dropdown section below for details).
Exempt and Expedited projects will be reviewed on a rolling basis, but Full Board projects must be reviewed by the entire IRB at a convened meeting. Full Board submissions must be received by the submission deadline shown below in order to be reviewed by the advertised IRB meeting date.
