Design thinking and prototyping aren't just for product development. We used the same principles when we created the Honors Program, and you'll do the same on your journey. Learn. Do. Reflect. Challenge assumptions. Take advantage of available resources and identify areas of need. Build on the things that work. Move away from what doesn't work as well, or figure out an improvement.
Our Honors Program is designed to help you achieve your goals, learn more about what interests you (and discover what doesn't!), and develop the honors abilities that are so valued by our graduates and their employers.
Things to Consider
Think about your area of focus
Where do you want to make an impact? What interests you? You can participate in undergraduate research, start a business, pursue leadership opportunities, and more. Or choose multiple areas of focus to develop a broader personal portfolio—the choice is yours.
Potential opportunities:
Plan your timeline
If you're a current Michigan Tech student with at least four semesters remaining, you're eligible to join the Pavlis Honors College. We recommend enrolling in the Honors Program during your first year or the first semester of your sophomore year to give you the most scheduling flexibility.
- If you're an incoming first-year student, you can apply for early admission, learn more about the honors program, start planning your personal goals, and meet our faculty and upper-level Honors students.
- If you have less time remaining until graduation but are passionate about your goals, please make an appointment to discuss your interests and accomplishments with the Pavlis Honors College program manager.
We've designed the Honors Program to fit your schedule and not delay your graduation. We recommend taking your courses in the following timeline:
- Year 1: HON 1150 (one-credit seminar course)
- Year 2: HON 2150 (one-credit seminar course)
- Year 2 or 3: HON 3150 one-credit seminar course)
- Year 3: Essential Education Honors Experience (3-credit Essential Education Experience course)
- Year 4: HON 4150 (one-credit seminar course)
Or map out a custom plan with guidance from the Program Manager, Kristi Juntunen.
