Biography

Jie "JW" Wu received his BS and MS degrees in Computer Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. He received his PhD in Systems Engineering from the George Washington University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia. He joined the Department of Computer Science at Michigan Technological University as an assistant professor in 2025. His research lies at the intersection of software engineering and AI, focusing on Trustworthy AIware (i.e., AI-powered software). His work has been published in top venues including ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology, Foundations of Software Engineering, AAAI, and IJCAI, and was recognized as a Best Paper Award candidate at IEEE/ACM CAIN 2024. Before academia, he spent nearly a decade in industry at Snap Inc., Microsoft, and a startup, and was a research intern at Google Research and Microsoft Research.
