Meet Ashraf Saleem, Mechatronics


Ashraf Saleem

Dr. Ashraf Saleem, Applied Computing/Mechatronics, has engaged his undergraduate students in researching a solution to detect cracks in the interior and exterior walls of buildings, which are often difficult to reach. Their research plan is to employ a drone to reach high, hidden places. Salem teaches two courses this academic year: Sensors and Instrumentation (EET 3131) and Data Acquisition and Signal Processing (EET 4253). Learn more about Dr. Saleem.

Pitch Competition Entries
Team or individual entries are requested for the Computing[MTU] Showcase Pitch Competition, which will be held April 6 from 9-10:15 a.m. Prize money will be awarded for top entrants! Eric Roberts from 20 Fathoms will also meet with students during the competition to strategize on how to deliver pitches with impact. Register here.
Student Volunteers Needed
The Computing[MTU] Showcase, April 4-6, is seeking student volunteers to help with registration, direct people to events, print name tags, and other activities to help the event go smoothly. Students may sign up for one or more time slots, which are on April 5 and April 6 starting daily at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:15 p.m. Volunteers will receive a Computing[MTU] t-shirt. Sign up here.


Robotics Systems Enterprise Info Session


Robotics Systems Enterprise

The Robotics Systems Enterprise is looking for students in majors including Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and more. The group will host an info session on Mar. 16, 7-8 pm, in Dow 641. Pizza and drinks will be provided. The info session can also be attended virtually.


Intensive Summer Robotics Classes


Robotics Arm

Earn four semester credits and an industrial certificate from FANUC Robotics Inc. This is a required course for Mechatronics majors.
EET 5144/4144: Real-Time Robotics Systems; two weeks, May 2 to May 13.
EET 5147/4147: Industrial Robotic Vision Systems; two weeks,  August 1 to August 12.


Virtual Workshop: Telling Your New Venture's Story


Husky Innovate

Husky Innovate, in collaboration with the MTEC SmartZone and Matt Monte of Monte Consulting, is hosting a workshop called “Telling Your Story” from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, via Zoom. Entrepreneurship pitch contestants and Tech community innovators are invited to join us as Monte guides innovators through activities to help them tell their new venture’s story. Pre-register by March 16.


Undergraduates Sought for Paid Research Study


Researchers at Michigan Tech are currently running a paid online study to look at the differences between in-person and remote academic teamwork environments. Undergraduates in specified majors are invited to participate. During a 50-minute webinar session, participants will be asked to watch a short video of a team, report their reactions, and additional activities. Participants will receive a $20 Amazon gift card. Register here.

Applied Research Solutions

  • Applied Research Solutions is seeking a full-time Summer Research Intern located at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. The research intern’s primary function will be to work with the Air Force Research Laboratory scientists and staff researchers, to support software integration and research efforts focused on autonomous aircraft projects. Apply here.
  • The Planetary Surface Technology Development Lab (PSTDL) or Huskyworks for short, needs nine talented students to help develop their technology for Lunar and Martian In-situ Resource Utilization.
