Music Performance—Minor

The Music Is in You

Are you a natural-born performer who craves the limelight? Do you have a musical voice—vocal, instrumental, or both—that the world needs to hear? The Minor in Music Performance from Michigan Tech emphasizes performance, allowing you to hone your musical craft and shine on center stage.

  • Develop a strong foundation in music theory, music history, and conducting technique for your creative endeavors.
  • Receive excellent individualized instruction from professional musicians in private music lessons.
  • If playing an instrument is your forte, earn elective credits by joining one or more of Michigan Tech's advanced instrumental ensembles: Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra, Superior Wind Symphony, or Jazz Lab Band. (Auditions required for all groups.)
  • If vocal performance is your passion, earn electives in group voice or through one of Tech's selective vocal ensembles, Concert Choir or Chamber Choir, both of which perform locally and tour nationally and internationally.
  • Show off your skills at a public performance activity (e.g., concerto, recital, lecture-recital) as a final project.
