Biography
Dr. Freitas graduated from UFMG, Brazil and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and
PhD in Materials Science Engineering. He has extensive experience with Electron Microscopy
(TEM, STEM, SEM, EDS, EELS, EFTEM, Electron Diffraction). Dr. Freitas worked for the
multiuser UFMG Center of Microscopy for 12+ years (2009-2021) with the day-to-day
operation of the TEM and managed the TEM lab for 4 years (2017-2021).
Dr. Freitas joined Michigan Tech in January 2022 and manages the Electron Microscopy
Core Lab at the Materials Characterization Fabrication Facility (MCFF), and teaches
the SEM course (MSE4500) and TEM lab sessions of the TEM course (MSE5550).
