Biography
Yu Cai is a professor in the College of Computing at Michigan Technological University. He serves as associate director of the Institute of Computing and Cybersystems (ICC) and director of the Computing Education Center within ICC. He is also the faculty advisor for two student organizations: RedTeam and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA).
Dr. Cai’s research interests include cybersecurity, machine learning, and computing education. He has served as lead PI on more than $6 million in externally funded projects supported by the National Science Foundation, the National Security Agency, the State of Michigan, and other organizations.
His work emphasizes the practical application of research and educational methods to address real-world challenges and create meaningful societal impact. Dr. Cai has also served as a consultant for companies including IBM and Ford. In addition, he is an ABET commissioner and program evaluator for computing accreditation. Dr. Cai holds the GIAC Machine Learning Engineer certification from the SANS Institute.
