After receiving his BSEE degree in 1978, Ken began his working career in technical sales for Hewlett Packard in Minneapolis. Over the next ten years, Ken held a variety of sales and management positions with HP. In 1989, he moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to lead HP’s technical sales group in that area. Michele Blau has what many people only dream of—the option of going to the office in her pajamas. Maybe not literally, but for the last several years Michele has held a management position with IBM, working out of her home in Hancock, Michigan. Michele holds three degrees from Michigan Tech. She earned an AAS in Electrical Engineering Technology in 1988, a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1992, and a MS in Operations . . .

Why did you choose Michigan Tech? Michigan Tech has a well-deserved reputation for being a great engineering school. I wanted to become an engineer, and growing up in Northern Michigan I am the type of person who is used to winter weather and likes to do things outdoors. I decided Tech was a great place for me to go and get away from home, yet still get in-state tuition, and be able to do lots of outdoor activities . . .

Why did you choose Michigan Tech? I wanted to study electrical engineering. I was able to commute daily from my childhood home in Nisula. I received a scholarship. How well did Michigan Tech prepare you for your career? Very well, since I didn’t need to get a master’s degree for the jobs I had.
