Transfer Student Orientation

Welcome to Michigan Tech! We understand that this isn't your first college experience.  We also know every campus is different. That's why we offer a transfer orientation designed to help you get the specific information you need to be successful.

Transfer Orientation will begin with a transfer-specific program from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2020.  At this program, you will get your materials for the rest of the week and get some great information on Michigan Tech resources from staff and a panel of continuing transfer students.  In addition to this program, you will have the opportunity to attend your academic department introductions and advising meetings on Monday, August 24, as well as select programs of interest on Tuesday and Wednesday leading up to the first day of classes.  It's important for all transfer students to participate in this orientation program to get acclimated, take care of any University-related functions (scheduling changes, picking up a parking permit or student ID, etc.), and get a deeper understanding of the people and resources that will help make you successful.

Here are the key dates to keep track of:

  • For transfer students living in a residence hall, check-in and move-in is on Friday, August 21 or Saturday, August 22.  You will receive an assigned time in early July.
  • For transfer students living off campus, the check-in time will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23 (directly before transfer orientation).

Transfer student orientation will be held 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 23.  Department introductions and Advisor meetings start at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 24.  You will be able to access a variety of other optional programs throughout the week.

Classes start:  Thursday, August 27

Transfer students may also opt-in to first-year student orientation, a more comprehensive program that runs from Sunday, August 23-Wednesday, August 26, 2020.  This program goes into more depth about resources, services and involvement and places students in small teams based on their major.  If you are interested in attending the extended program, please email: orientation@mtu.edu or call 906-487-3558.
