The U.P. Summer Theater Institute is thrilled to bring Broadway to the next generation of theater makers in our premiere season during summer 2020. Working in partnership with the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts, our program runs from July 5-July 26, with room and board provided in partnership with the Summer Youth Programs on the campus of Michigan Technological University.
This immersive three week program will lead rising 8th-12th graders through a rehearsal and performance process that mirrors what industry professionals are accustomed to when hired at professional Equity (union) theaters.
Rather than taking individual, theoretical singing, dancing, and acting classes, we offer our performers the unique chance to experience the ensemble-building process of mounting a full-scale, full-length musical.
If you love theater, but would rather run the sound board or work the spotlight than perform onstage, we have a place for you too! Tech/Design focused students get a hands on experience with state of the art equipment at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts, working closely under the mentorship of industry professionals to hone their understanding of lighting, audio/sound design, set design/construction, costume design/construction, and stage management.
Led by a professional Artistic/Creative team comprised of Directors, Choreographers, and Musicians hailing from the Broadway stages of New York City, we offer our young performers and designers the unique opportunity to experience what it feels like to go pro, and work on a professional show. The final weekend culminates in three performances of the show for a paying public audience comprised of parents, friends, and the local community.
