Human Subjects Research

On March 24, all studies and procedures involving person-to-person or interaction were suspended by the MTU Administration due to the onset of COVID-19 prevalence within the State of Michigan and the restrictions enacted at Michigan Tech and State levels.

In preparation for the reopening of campus and ramp up of HSR studies, the MTU Human Research Protections Program (HRPP) released Human Subject Research Ramp Up Guidance explaining how and when various HSR activities would be allowed to re-start. HSR allowable activities are based primarily on person-to-person direct contact, interaction, and/or intervention necessary to conduct the research. Research teams will need to review and implement all requirements found in the HSR Ramp Up Guidance. Additionally, research teams are required to monitor the MTU Flex webpage for the most up-to-date information with regards to the current MTU Health and Safety Levels and Protocols
