Artificial Intelligence for Business Information Systems Certificate

The certificate in Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) for Business Information Systems is designed for graduate students in business programs who want to explore how information technology and AI can support business strategy and operations, as well as for students in data science and computer science who wish to understand the application of computing and data science to business.

This certificate prepares students to see how information systems, AI, and machine learning can be used within organizations to meet strategic and operational objectives. BA 5200 - Information Systems Management and Data Analytics

Focuses on management of IS/IT within the business environment. Topics include IT infrastructure and architecture, organizational impact of innovation, change management, human-machine interaction, and contemporary management issues involving data analytics. Class format includes lecture, group discussion, and integrative case studies.

MIS 5000 - Emerging Technologies

Focuses on understanding IT for competitive advantage and as an agent of transformation. Topics include managing IT infrastructure and architecture, facilitating information distribution throughout the enterprise, business applications for machine learning and artificial intelligence, and other emerging trends and technologies.

Focuses on generation and interpretation of business analytics relative to organizational decision making. Includes core skills necessary for constructing data retrieval queries in a relational database environment and processing data using appropriate programming languages. MIS 5100 - Information Systems Projects

MIS capstone course. Applies IS practices and artifacts as solutions to business problems using student-led project teams under faculty supervision. Students develop a working prototype of a business solution using good design and management practices.

To be considered for admission to the Graduate School as a degree- or certificate-seeking student, you need to:

have a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution, and
be prepared for advanced study in your chosen field, as demonstrated by your previous degree and your scholastic record.

Michigan Tech requires a minimum 79 overall TOEFL or 6.5 overall IELTS score.

Prospective Students

Prospective students and non-degree seeking students interested in obtaining a graduate certificate must apply to the certificate program using the online application.
Accelerated certificate options exist for current Michigan Tech undergraduate students in good standing and have achieved at least junior-level standing or recent bachelor’s graduates of Michigan Tech (less than two years).
The number of credits earned prior to admission that can be counted are restricted.

Current Graduate Students

Current Michigan Tech graduate students who are in a degree program do not need to formally apply. Current students must still submit the appropriate degree schedule in order to complete the certificate.

International Student Requirements

International Students must apply and be accepted into a degree-granting program in order to earn a graduate certificate. A non-refundable $10 processing fee per application is required.
