Accounting Analytics Certificate

The certificate in Accounting Analytics provides graduate students with a strong mindset of the understanding and usage of common accounting analytic techniques. It allows the students pursuing this certificate the ability to not only understand computer programmers but it also gives an opportunity to those earning this certificate to communicate with computer programmers with their understanding of both an accounting standpoint and business decision making.

Courses

Classes, such as ACC5700 or Accounting Analytical Methods, set each student up with comprehensive information on how to use computer programming to manipulate data and fundamental analysis. By earning the Certificate in Accounting Analytics, it sets each student up with skill sets in business decision making and a well-rounded understanding of accounting concepts that are valued by employers.

ACC 4000 - Accounting Data Analytics

Develop knowledge and competencies in data analytic techniques to generate accounting information used for business intelligence. Applied exercises with software tools are used to cover topics including data preparation, analysis, visualization, and scenario analysis.

ACC 5700 - Accounting Analytical Methods and Emerging Technologies

This course focuses on the utilization of data analytics and emerging technologies to solve contemporary accounting/auditing problems.

Study of financial statement analysis and concepts of valuation utilizing accounting based financial information. Methods are applied to encompass decision making, communication, and judgment using problems, cases, and projects.

BA 5200 - Information Systems Management and Data Analytics

Focuses on management of IS/IT within the business environment. Topics include IT infrastructure and architecture, organizational impact of innovation, change management, human-machine interaction, and contemporary management issues involving data analytics. Class format includes lecture, group discussion, and integrative case studies.

To be considered for admission to the Graduate School as a degree- or certificate-seeking student, you need to:

have a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution, and
be prepared for advanced study in your chosen field, as demonstrated by your previous degree and your scholastic record.

Michigan Tech requires a minimum 79 overall TOEFL or 6.5 overall IELTS score.

Admissions Decisions

Made on a rolling basis.

This certificate requires a minimum of 9 credits of coursework.

Prospective Students

Prospective students and non-degree seeking students interested in obtaining a graduate certificate must apply to the certificate program using the online application.
Accelerated certificate options exist for current Michigan Tech undergraduate students in good standing and have achieved at least junior-level standing or recent bachelor’s graduates of Michigan Tech (less than two years).
The number of credits earned prior to admission that can be counted are restricted.

Current Graduate Students

Current Michigan Tech graduate students who are in a degree program do not need to formally apply. Current students must still submit the appropriate degree schedule in order to complete the certificate.

International Student Requirements

International Students must apply and be accepted into a degree-granting program in order to earn a graduate certificate. A non-refundable $10 processing fee per application is required.
