Center for Innovation and Incubation (CII)

Mission

Center for Innovation and Incubation (CII) serves a special function in the GLRC Institute.

  • First, CII will incubate smaller research groups within the GLRC, such as our Hardwood Mass Timber Institute team, environmental biotechnology group, and MiSTAR team.
  • Second, CII will foster education research, outreach, and workforce development, connecting our research mission with the greater education mission at Michigan Tech.
  • Last, CII will serve as the GLRC’s hub for bridging research, entrepreneurship, and real-world application. CII will assist and invest in GLRC members’ innovation interests, facilitating connections with campus and regional resources and organizations, such as MTU’s Office of Innovation and Commercialization, MTEC Smartzone, NSF I-Corps, College of Business, and others.

By bridging physical, biogeochemical, and computational sciences with social, policy, and decision-making dimensions, CEESIM empowers stakeholders to address critical challenges in climate change adaptation and mitigation, resilient energy and infrastructure planning, risk analysis, disaster response, and the stewardship of Great Lakes and coastal ecosystems.

Leadership

The GLRC Executive Director will lead CII as a special initiative.

  • Executive Director, Great Lakes Research Center
  • Executive Director, Institute of Computing and Cybersystems
  • William and Gloria Jackson Professor
