Check-In and Registration
Program registration is offered on the Sunday of each program week from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. in Wadsworth Hall on Michigan Tech’s campus. If you require an exception for early or later check-in times, please contact our office ahead of time. For students arriving by SYP charter bus or plane, your check-in will be offered upon your arrival.
If you arrive by car, there will be sandwich board signs on US-41 indicating where to park at Wadsworth Hall. Carside registration will be held in the parking lot in front of Wadsworth Hall. Counselors will be there to greet you, offer directions, and help with the registration process.
For the students who arrive on the charter bus, you will roll into campus around 9 a.m. on Sunday morning. An SYP counselor will meet you at the bus and direct you to registration.
If you arrive by plane, SYP staff are available to meet you at the airport and drive you to campus. See travel for more information about these ways to arrive.
Registration runs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the Sunday of each program week. You must register before moving into your room! The process is simple, and includes:
- A check by SYP staff to make sure your paperwork is complete (if it's not, you'll be asked to complete it)
- Taking a photo (if necessary) and receiving your SYP ID—an RFID card (tap access) which will give you access to your floor and into the dining hall
- Receiving your room key (live-in only), a review of basic program rules and answering any remaining questions you may have regarding Summer Youth Programs.
If you bring any medicine to camp (prescription or over-the-counter), it must be checked in at the SYP front desk. Our front desk staff will keep detailed notes on what medications you take and when. Simply come to the desk to get it when needed. The front desk also has some basic over the counter medicines available if needed. To receive over the counter medications, they need to be approved for distribution by a parent/guardian and documented in your CampDoc account. Students who require an emergency epi-pen or inhaler may keep these items.
The SYP front desk has a safe available if students wish to store valuables such as keys, jewelry, or extra spending cash. Students are expected to keep their rooms locked when they are away. Summer Youth Programs is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
Once live-in participants are registered they can move their luggage into their room. Counselors will be there to help show you where your room is and a service elevator is available on the first floor. This is your time to unpack and get comfortable and meet your roommate before activities begin! Remember: you are responsible for the care and condition of your room. If you break or damage anything you can be assessed fees during check out.
Program Check Out is offered on Friday of each program week from 5 p.m.–9 p.m. Late checkout is available on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon with an additional fee of $75. If you need to request an early or late check out time, please contact our offices ahead of time.
We know it’s not your favorite chore, but you will need to clean your room before leaving SYP. This includes making sure you pack all your items, pick up any trash, dispose of garbage, vacuum if needed, pull linens from your bed and place them in the hallway along with your towel and washcloth. Your pillow will remain on the bed with the pillowcase removed. Make sure to check every drawer and under your bed for any forgotten items!
If you are a live-in participant, you will need to pack and clean your room! Then
you can ask a counselor to check your rooms condition. They will go over a checklist
to make sure that nothing is damaged, broken, or missing and sign off that your room
looks good. You can then visit the sign-out station by the dining hall to turn in
your key and room condition sheet and sign out of camp. Make sure to visit the front
desk to collect your medicine and valuables before you leave! If you arrived by car
or with your family, one of your authorized release adults will need to sign you out
with our staff—then you are free to go.
If you have a flight out of Houghton County Memorial Airport (CMX), an SYP staff member is available to drive you and make sure you get checked in at the airport. Make sure you know the plan!
If you are a commuter participant, make sure to indicate when you leave the program on Friday in the Commuter Sign-in/Sign-Out book located at the front desk.
If you are riding the charter bus home, it leaves Michigan Tech around 10 p.m. Friday nights. You need to be checked out of your room by 8 p.m. that evening. Your luggage can be securely stored in the dining hall between the time that you check out of your room and when you need to load the bus. A bus chaperone will take roll to make sure everyone is on board, and then you will be headed home.
