Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Programs (SYP) provide high-impact educational experiences for youth in grades 6-11. SYP is an opportunity for middle and high school students to experience college in a fun, engaging, and safe environment. Through our programs, SYP participants will interact with Michigan Tech students, faculty, and staff while also networking with other exceptional young people from around the globe. Join us on our campus in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula.
Build Your SYP Experience
Select a course (or more than one!) from our collection of week-long programs that run through June and July. Each module allows participants to spark their curiosity and explore interests through hands-on academic immersion. Choose your student's area of interest to get started.
Pathway Programs
Pathway Programs provide an opportunity for students to engage with learning as a pathway to a career. These courses center on one aspect of life in a technological field, preparing young scholars for how their studies could apply to the world outside of the classroom.
Business/Humanities
Choose from a selection of courses that focus on business, the humanities, and law. Our summer courses allow middle and high school students to explore topics including creative writing, civic engagement, the stock market, the day-to-day realities of the US legal system, and more.
Computing
If your student wants to focus on computing, develop their skills with a summer course taught by experts in the field. They'll learn practical skills through hands-on experience, with courses available on hardware, software, and everything in between.
Engineering
Your student can enter the world of engineering with middle- and high-school-level courses designed to open their eyes to the many, varied forms engineering can take. Whether your student is interested in aerospace, mechanical, chemical, or other disciplines, enroll them in an engineering course filled with plenty of active participation and opportunities for curiosity.
Science and Technology
Our science and technology courses are as varied as the students interested in them! With subjects ranging from the ecosystem and natural resources to healthcare to geological mapping, your student will have plenty of room to grow and learn about the topic of their choosing.
