The prices above are the base cost for attending SYP. For live-in students, the cost of attendance covers course tuition, program fees, meals, room, and board. The commuter cost covers meals and course tuition. You can visit our Live-In vs Commuter page more information about the difference between the two.
Some classes have a course (or “lab”) fee in addition to the base tuition. These lab fees are used for lab supplies, transportation, permits, admission fees, and other accommodations that are necessary for some of the explorations. Lab fee information is listed in the Course Catalog, and fees range from $25—$50 depending on the class.

Early Arrival/Late Departure
All participants are asked to check-in to SYP on the Sunday of the start of their program. If you need to check in on Saturday due to travel conflicts, you may be assessed a $75 early arrival fee. This will cover the extra day of meals, room and board, and supervision by our staff.
At the end of the week, students need to check out during one of our two check-out times: Friday evening (5p.m.-10 p.m.) or Saturday morning (9 a.m.-noon). If for some reason you’re unable to check out until later on Saturday, you may be assessed a $75 late departure fee.
Late departures cannot be accommodated on Saturday 6/29 or Saturday 8/3.
Can’t choose just one exploration? No problem! Every summer, some students register for more than one week of SYP. Over the weekend, we make sure that stayover students get to experience the Upper Peninsula through activities such as tours of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Porcupine Mountains State Park, Adventure Mine tours, and much more.
If you’re staying with us over the weekend, a stayover fee of $125 will cover room and board, supervision, meals (both in the dining hall and during away trips), and any applicable excursion expenses.
Visit the Live-In vs Commuter page for info about stayover trips.
