"/imagine a human hand" is artwork made out of wood based on an AI-generated hand with six fingers

/imagine a human head by Kirstin Hendley

"This piece explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and human craftsmanship through wood inlay. I began with a Midjourney AI prompt, 'imagine a human hand', to create possible designs. I was drawn to this particular image because, at first glance, it appears to be an ordinary hand, but something feels subtly unexpected. This small anomaly invites the viewer to look closer and question their assumptions about what they see.

I chose a human hand as my subject because, when evaluating artwork, my instinct is to check the hands—one of the telltale signs of AI-generated images. By translating an AI-generated concept into a physical wood inlay piece, I highlight the interplay between digital creativity and handmade craftsmanship. Each piece of wood was carefully selected for its natural grain and color, bringing an organic element to a design born in the digital realm.

This work reflects on the evolving relationship between AI and human artistry, exploring how both can contribute to creativity in unique ways."

A New Generation by Milli Morales

"As generations advance in technology, artificial intelligence becomes a more common tool in the world. AI inspires me to push the boundaries of my realistic portrait art by providing endless references, insights into lighting techniques, and advanced tools that enhance my creative process. Studying AI-generated portraits has deepened my understanding of detail, texture, and composition, motivating me to refine my work. In my recent piece, I focused on mimicking natural lighting, as light is essential in bringing depth, mood, and life into an artwork. By carefully observing how AI replicates light, I experimented with soft shadows and highlights to create a more dynamic, lifelike affect, making my portrait feel vivid and emotionally engaging."

This artwork is a crustacean and plants in the shape of a bronze crown

Cliché Though? by Lillian Wilkie-Jones

"A bronze crown, with a muriatic acid atmospheric patina. An assemblage of plant and crustacean, with the dissonance of materials from oak helicopter seeds to crab claws unified in wax then bronze. Making something ephemeral into a permanent object."

Artwork made out of embroidery thread, security envelopes, and jumbled up sayings that marketers use.

Junkmail by Cassandra Liuzzo

"Security envelopes are stitched with machine embroidered phrases pulled from my e-mail Junk folder, in my mixed-media installation 'Junkmail.' At face value, these phrases (e.g. 'We have been trying to reach you. Your great steaks is waiting!') are absurd and humorous, but their purpose is sinister: to steal data, money, and identity. In this work, spam becomes'found poetry,' and envelopes, displayed on the wall in a haphazard overlapping array, fill the viewer’s field of vision creating a sense of overwhelm much like an overflowing inbox. Security envelopes are rapidly becoming a piece of paper ephemera going the way of ticker tape and telegrams. In the age of 'going paperless' to keep physical mail out of the landfill, when the digital world runs on fossil fuels, we must ask the question: how much energy is used to store and transport e-Junk?"

The flawed code instead produced a representation of the student/artist's internal state during graduate school following the loss of her mother and the start of a global pandemic."

A letterpress print over a colorful digital print.

Noisescape #1 by Josey Kathleen Hanish

"A mountainous landscape is algorithmically generated and printed with a digital printer (HP Color Laserjet Enterprise M855). Then, the Python program used is hand-set in moveable lead type and printed over the landscape on a traditional letterpress (Vandercook Proof Press No. 3). The text is separated from the typical context of computer programs while adding context to the print of the landscape. Supporting photographs, to be displayed alongside the print, show the Vandercook press and the moveable lead type."

This blue 3D printed sculpture explores the intersection between organic and inorganic.

Fiber Reinforced Art Network (FRAN) by Kara Hardy and William Johnston

"FRAN explores the intersection between organic and inorganic. It was 3D printed using a custom G-Code that prints long thin strings between opposite sides of the outer wall. If you look closely at the web, you can see a pair of eyes, a nose and a mouth."

This artwork in the shaped of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is filled with blue string-like fibers of filament.

FiberUP by William Johnston

"This 3D printed artwork portrays the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, crafted not just as a geographical tribute but as a showcase of the intersection between technology and creativity. Utilizing a specialized computational design tool, the piece intricately positions a network of thin, flexible fibers within the peninsula’s outline, a task that blends artistic expression with technical precision. Each fiber is strategically placed, and the coordinates are seamlessly translated into a 3D printing G-Code file, highlighting the innovative use of technology to bring an artistic vision to life. This artwork not only captures the unique beauty and spirit of the Upper Peninsula but also exemplifies the transformative potential of merging computational innovation with creative design. The result is a captivating piece that invites viewers to explore the harmonious blend of art and science."

This acrylic on canvas artwork is an experiment of cool versus warm color schemes.

Falling Colors by Mary Gray

"This is a piece I decided to create while I was experimenting with texture, acrylic paints, a sponge and color combinations. The colors I chose were based on a cool color scheme versus warm. The first snow in the fall reminded of me how the northern lights are more vibrant with cooler colors versus the northern lights in the spring with warmer colors. Artists sometimes only see the flaws in their artwork, an outside perspective can see the beauty and what I miss."

Ghost in the Machine is a web-based audiovisual piece that uses p5.js to deconstruct and recompose faces from the "Faces in the Wild" dataset

Ghost in the Machine by Arden Schager

"Ghost in the Machine is a web-based audiovisual piece that uses p5.js to deconstruct and recompose faces from the 'Faces in the Wild' dataset. Inspired by the surrealist exquisite corpse, the interface slices and merges facial data into ghostly composites. As the viewer moves their mouse, the images shift—some recognizable, some monstrous, all unsettlingly familiar.

Echoing this visual fragmentation is a haunting audio layer built from sliced speech—broadcasts, monologues, and crowd noise—dissolving into digital static. The result is a sensory fugue of identity: a brutal algorithmic churn in which individuality is distorted, dissolved, and repurposed. Ghost in the Machine reflects on the spectral nature of selfhood in a culture of relentless datafication—where surveillance systems not only recognize us, but actively reassemble us."

This captivating series explores the many facets of love through the subtle interplay of light, emotion, and symbolism.

him. by Richie Shadibaeva

"This captivating series explores the many facets of love through the subtle interplay of light, emotion, and symbolism. Each photograph is a visual poem, featuring intimate glimpses into a relationship - rings that symbolize commitment, flowers that represent the fragility and beauty of affection, hands that convey touch and connection, and a lone figure playing a guitar, pouring his heart into the music."

Linh Dao - Pre-Arrival

Legion (2024) by Salvatore Siriano

When visiting my family in New Orleans, a city whose history is deeply rooted in spirituality, the streetcar becomes not only my primary mode of transportation but also a place for contemplation. I recently found myself reflecting on the biblical story of Legion—a story I first learned as a child but now view from another perspective. The man possessed by Legion, exiled to live among the tombs, is marked by suffering and separation. His struggles echo contemporary experiences with mental health, a reality that resonates with me as someone living with OCD, where isolation and alienation often accompany one’s condition.
Even after Jesus cast out the demons into a herd of pigs, which then rushed into the sea and drowned, the townspeople responded with fear, asking Him to leave. Their reaction mirrors how society often confronts mental health—with fear and misunderstanding rather than empathy and care.
This piece integrates video and drone footage I filmed in New Orleans with field recordings captured in the same city, along with guitar, timpani draped in chains, detuned violin, and modular synthesizers—each digitally transformed using Max and TouchDesigner software—blending physical and introspective landscapes to contemplate the story and its modern significance. I used a depth camera to generate a point cloud video of myself, creating the particle being who represents the isolated person. The COVID-19 pandemic, which further exposed the mental health crisis, deepened this sense of isolation for many. This work reflects my hope for a shift in our collective response—from ostracizing those in need to embracing them with compassion and dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health.

"MBR (Mandebrot Recorder)" by Faith Combs

Exploring mathematically created fractals under a VCR-styled lens. VCRs started hitting the shelves in 1972 and the Mandelbrot sequence was discovered in 1975. Fractals have explained the timings of earthquakes, the distribution of galaxies, and have helped diagnose cancer, to name a few examples. So why aren't fractals a household concept like the VCR?
