State-Level Angler Information

Estimates of the number of in-state resident anglers are available by age and sex annually. The exact years for which data are available vary by state and users should view the documentation file for a complete description. Estimates are also available for the smaller subset of anglers resident in each state who fish the Great Lakes for salmon/trout. Also included are corresponding estimates of the total eligible population resident in each state, by age and sex. These total populations make up the full universe of potential anglers and could be used as a denominator for constructing participation rates. Identical data files are available for download in .csv format (compatible with many programs), or in .dta format (for use with Stata). Maps show (by county) total angler participation rates and Great Lakes salmon/trout angler participation rates, as well as change in participation rates over time.
