Biography
Nicholas Stevens serves as the Vice President for Finance at Michigan Technological University, where he oversees all university financial functions and the strategic financial leadership of the Michigan Tech Fund. His core operational responsibilities span long-range financial projections, operating budget development, financial reporting, treasury and investment management, bond issuance, property management, external audits, and comprehensive accounting oversight.
With two decades of distinguished leadership and executive management experience in higher education, Mr. Stevens has consistently driven administrative excellence and financial sustainability. At Michigan Tech, he successfully introduced long-range multi-year planning software that enables sophisticated 5-to-7-year financial modeling across complex strategic initiatives. Furthermore, he spearheaded a major auxiliary fund review that established a true full-revenue and expense financial structure for the university. He currently is in the process of implementing a new budget model for the University.
Prior to assuming his current role in September 2026, Mr. Stevens served as Associate Vice President for Finance (2025–2026). His extensive tenure at Michigan Tech also includes leadership as Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President for Administration, and Treasurer to the Board of Trustees (2023–2025), where he directed finance, administration, institutional research, facilities, and information technology operations. He initially joined Michigan Tech in 2015 after holding foundational accounting and administrative roles in private education, subsequently rising through the university’s budget and planning office to serve as Director of Budget and Financial Planning from 2019 to 2023.
In addition to his administrative leadership, Mr. Stevens serves as Treasurer on the Boards of the Michigan Tech Fund, the Michigan Tech Enterprise Corporation (MTESC), and Superior Innovations. He is also an active member of the University’s Benefits Advisory Group.
