Husky Closet Collective

In an effort to provide Michigan Tech students with clothing resources in a sustainable way, a group of faculty and staff have formed The Husky Closet Collective. The Husky Closet Collective consists of three programs - the Clothing Closet, the Career Closet, and Gowns for Grads. We aim to reduce waste by reusing donated items instead of throwing them away. All of our programs are donation based and completely free to Michigan Tech students. Students may select clothing for interviews, gender-affirming clothing, or cold-weather clothing. Thanks to the American Marketing Association at Michigan Tech for designing the logos and working on the promotional materials.

The Clothing Closet

Located in 128 Douglass Houghton Hall, The Clothing Closet provides new and gently used everyday clothing items for free. Students can pick up jeans, shoes, tops, socks, coats, and more. During the academic year, the closet is open 10am-8pm. During the summer the closet is open by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, email huskycloset@mtu.edu.

To donate to the Clothing Closet, bring your items to 128 Douglass Houghton Hall and place them in the donation bin. Donations are also accepted at the Wadsworth Hall front desk.

The Career Closet

The Career Closet event occurs twice per year on the weekend preceding Career Fair. This event is a give-away of gently worn business clothing to assist students in preparing for Career Fair, internships, co-ops, and other career opportunities. Thanks to the generous support of alumni, faculty, staff, and community members, we gave away over 1,500 items of clothing to 425 students in the 2022-2023 academic year.

The next Career Closet event will be Saturday, September 16 from 1:00pm-5:00pm and Sunday, September 17 from 10am-2pm.

Gowns for Grads

Our newest program started in Spring 2023. We aim to provide caps and gowns for graduates to borrow. Don’t let the cost of a gown stop you from celebrating your hard work and graduation. Information about how to borrow a gown will be released in Fall 2023. We will have a small number of gowns available for December Commencement. To donate your cap and gown, email huskycloset@mtu.edu.
