What if I wanted to change majors?

Many college students change their major during their college careers. Changing majors and transferring between departments is not unusual. You can find a list of academic advisors on the Registrar's Office website. Set up a meeting with your new major's advisor to learn more.

Current students can request to change their major through your Experience portal.

New incoming first-year students who wish to change their major before arriving on campus can email Admissions, mtu4u@mtu.edu. They will be able to adjust your major for you.

What are the general education requirements?

The most up-to-date general education requirements can be found on the Registrar’s website. You can run your uAchieve Interactive Degree Audit to check your progress and how you courses are counting towards your requirements.

I encountered an error while trying to register for a course. What should I do?

If you receive an error while registering for a course, read the error message closely. You can find information about common registration stoppers on the Registrar's Office website. You can contact your academic advisor for additional help!

I want to transfer course credit to Michigan Tech! What do I do?

Make sure you talk with your advisor about your degree plan and how transfer courses could apply to your degree before you enroll in a course at another school. Be mindful of Michigan Tech's Graduation Residency Policy. Visit our Transfer Services website to read related policies and agreements.

You can plan your transfer credits by using the Transfer Equivalency System. You can search by schools and subject. This lists only includes courses that other students have taken and transferred to Michigan Tech, so it will not include every course offered at the school!

If you want to transfer a course that is not listed, then you will have to get a syllabus for that course (either from that school's website or by emailing the school/instructor to request one) to have it evaluated by Michigan Tech. Send a copy of the syllabus to transfer@mtu.edu to have it evaluated. This process can take a few weeks, so plan ahead!

Once you have planned the courses you wish to transfer. You can apply as a guest student at the school where you plan to take the course. You must earn a C or higher to transfer the credit to Michigan Tech. Please send your official transcript to our Transfer Services.
