Graduate School Admissions Dashboard Definitions

Overview

This dashboard reports on data captured by the Admissions Dimensional Warehouse, which takes snapshots of of the Banner application data when “significant events” occur (such as application status or decision changes). This dashboard is refreshed each Sunday morning, using the data from Saturday night’s snapshot.

Scope

Only Graduate (​saradap_levl_code = ‘GR’​) applications with these Student Types (saradap_styp_code)​ are included in this dashboard: 

  • G - Guest
  • E - 1st Time Exchange 
  • J - 1st Time Post Graduate
  • M - 1st Time Masters
  • P - 1st Time Doctoral
  • Y - Post Degree Studies (Graduate Certificates and Non-Degree Seeking Students)

Dashboard Controls and Filters

Application Year

Based on the application’s entry term code - groups summer, fall, and spring together.

Example: 2018 covers 201805, 201808, 201901 

Recruitment Week

The recruitment week for the application year. Each weeks starts on Sunday and ends the following Saturday. 

Example: Week one for Application Year 2018 would begin in mid/late August 2017.

Week 0 captures information gathered before the recruitment year started being tracked.

Semester

Fall, Spring, Summer - from the application’s entry term code ​(saradap_term_code_entry)

#Years

Determines how many years are displayed for on-screen comparison.

Gender

Determined by the sex from Banner ​(spbpers_sex)​:

  • Male = M
  • Female = F
  • Unknown = N or missing

Residence

  • International (Citizen of foreign country)
    Residency in Banner ​(saradap_resd_code)​ is: I (International)
  • Domestic
    In-State Resident (Michigan resident)
    Residency in Banner ​(saradap_resd_code)​ is: R (In state Resident)
  • Non-Resident (Out of state resident)
    Residency in Banner ​(saradap_resd_code)​ is: N (Non-Resident)
  • Not Declared (Residency was not indicated)
    Residency in Banner ​(saradap_resd_code)​ is missing, or is: 0 (Undeclared)

Ethnicity

Determined by applicant’s ethnicity in Banner ​(spbpers_ethn_code)​:

Minority

  • 1 - American Indian/Alaskan Native
  • 2- African American/Non-Hispanic
  • 3 - Asian/Asian American
  • 4 - Hispanic/Hispanic American
  • 7 - Multiracial
  • 8 - Pacific Islander 

Non-minority

  • 0 - Not Supplied
  • 5 - White/Non-Hispanic
  • 6 - International 

UG Degree

  • MTU = applicants who have an awarded 01/UG degree from Michigan Tech, or applicants who are currently registered as a non-PC student at Michigan Tech prior to their application’s entry term code.
  • Non-MTU = applicants whose UG degree is not from Michigan Tech (this is the default, unless the above MTU criteria applies).

Nation

The legal nation code ​(gobintl_natn_code_legal)​. 

When missing, displays as Nation Not Supplied. 
Note: Most US applications are categorized as Nation Not Supplied.

Funding

Funding is indicated when most current decision code ​(sarappd_apdc_code)​ for this application is 54 (Grad Accept-University Support). 

College/School

All potential graduate level college/schools. Determined by the application’s curriculum college code ​(sobcurr_coll_code)​:

  • 00 - No College Designated 
  • BU - School of Business and Economics
  • CO - College of Computing 
  • EN - College of Engineering
  • FO - College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science
  • GR - Graduate School
  • ID - Interdisciplinary
  • SA - College of Sciences and Arts
  • TE - School of Technology

Degree

All potential graduate level departments. Dean of Grad School is the department that interdisciplinary applications are assigned until they are accepted into a specific department.

Determined by a mapping from the application’s curriculum program code (sorcmjr_majr_code)​. When this is missing, displays as No Department Designated.

Summary Graph and Tables

The definition of “Accepted” is a bit different on this tab: it includes all applications that have ever been accepted (including International applications without financial documentation).

These Accepted applications are then broken into “Active” (still have an Accepted status), Cancelled, and Deferred. This allows distinguishing between applications that were Cancelled/Deferred before a decision was made, and those that occurred after being Accepted by their department.

Further, this tab distinguishes between Cancelled and Deferred (which previously were both grouped together in the Cancelled bucket).

Incomplete
