Welcome to the Graduate School at Michigan Technological University! Graduate research, creation of knowledge, and solving problems have always been important at Michigan Tech; our first graduate courses in mining were offered in 1889, four years after the university was established. Today, we offer over 70 graduate programs in traditional and emerging fields and graduate students are a core component of the intellectual vibrancy on campus.
Graduate study on our campus is interdisciplinary, innovative and collaborative. We strive to continuously grow and improve graduate education so our students are prepared to meet and solve the grand challenges of today’s society, within and outside the academy. Most of our programs are small enough that students and faculty can work closely across departments and colleges, yet large enough to cover many areas in a variety of fields. Our students experience flexibility and freedom in their graduate study and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully launch their careers. Our graduates have gone on to make original contributions to their field, start entrepreneurial companies, and develop new technologies to protect and sustain the environment.
If you are a prospective student and want to be a part of our premier technological university we invite you to further explore our PhD programs, MS programs, and certificate programs. I encourage you to visit us and see for yourself what our faculty, campus, and our unique location have to offer. Our combination of first-rate research and proximity to the beauty and wilderness of the Upper Peninsula and Lake Superior provide an exciting place to do what graduate students have always done—learn more, ask questions, improve ourselves, and take on new challenges.
If you are an incoming student, we welcome you to our community of scholars. The relationships you form here will guide you well into the future we are creating together. Please contact us at for further information.
Once again, welcome to the Graduate School at Michigan Tech!
I wish you every success in your graduate education.
