Banner Access Request

Banner access is required for some individuals to perform their job duties. Below is a description of how to request access according to the individual’s role in graduate education.

To update a graduate program director or assistant, please complete the Update Graduate Staff form and the Graduate School will complete and provide the necessary access forms. Please note that individuals must be employees at Michigan Tech to obtain access; contact the Graduate School with any questions you have.

Graduate Faculty Status

Graduate Faculty who are appointed as advisors or co-advisors for graduate students in Banner need access to Banner Workflow (to approve or reject defense scheduling requests), Perceptive Content, and WebFocus reports under the “Academic folder”.

To obtain the necessary access, complete the Student Information Access Request Form:

  • Enter the contact information requested
  • Select whether this is a request for a new or existing banner user
    • If the faculty has had Banner access previously, select Existing
    • If the faculty has not had Banner access previously or is new to MTU, select New.
  • Select “Graduate Faculty”
  • Select "Graduate Defense Workflow”
  • Select "Perceptive Content Group" and write-in “Graduate School folder”
  • Check Web Focus and write-in “Academic folder”
  • Obtain signatures for the applicant and supervisor on page 2
  • Scan and email the form to sais@mtu.edu

For faculty who are reviewing applicants for admissions, they will also need to complete the following on the Slate Access Request Form:

  • Provide the contact information requested.
  • Check "Graduate School Faculty"
  • Obtain signatures as noted
  • Scan and email the form to sais@mtu.edu

Graduate Program Directors

Graduate Program Directors who are appointed as advisors or coadvisors for graduate students in Banner need access to Banner Workflow (to approve or reject defense scheduling requests) and WebFocus reports under the “Academic folder”.

Graduate Program Directors who are appointed to make admission decisions for the department need access to Slate and WebFocus reports under the Admissions folder.

Graduate program directors will need access to Perceptive Content for Student and Admission documents.

To obtain the necessary access, complete the Student Information Access Request Form and Slate Access Form.

On the Student Information Access Request Form:

  • Enter the contact information requested
  • Select whether this is a request for a new or existing banner user
    • If the grad director has had Banner access previously, select Existing
    • If the grad director has not had Banner access previously or is new to MTU, select New.
  • Check “Graduate Program Director” (top section)
  • Write in "Banweb Advisor Tab" access to obtain the Banweb Advisor Tab
  • Check "Graduate Defense Workflow”
  • For WebFOCUS access check "Web Focus" and:
    • If the grad director is serving as both the Academic and Admissions director, write-in “Academic folder” and “Admissions folder’
    • If the grad director is serving as the Admissions director only, write-in “Admissions folder”
    • If the grad director is serving as the Academic director only write-in “Academic folder”
  • For Perceptive Content access check Perceptive Content Group and write-in “Graduate School folder”
  • Obtain signatures for the applicant and supervisor on page 2
  • Scan and email the form to sais@mtu.edu

On the Slate Access Request Form

  • Provide the contact information requested.
  • Check "Graduate School Program Director"
  • Obtain signatures as noted
  • Scan and email the form to sais@mtu.edu

Graduate Program Assistants

Graduate program assistants will need access to WebFocus reports under the Academic and Admissions folders.

Graduate program assistants will need access to Perceptive Content for Student and Admission documents.

Graduate program assistants will need access to Banner 9 and Banner 8 forms.

To obtain the necessary access, complete the Student Information Access Request Formand Slate Access Form.

On the Student Information Access Request Form:

  • Enter the contact information requested
  • Select whether this is a request for a new or existing banner user
    • If the grad assistant has had Banner access previously, select Existing
    • If the grad assistant has not had Banner access previously or is new to MTU, select New.
  • Select “Graduate Program Assistant”
  • For WebFOCUS access check Web Focus and write-in “Academic and Admissions folder”
  • For Perceptive Content access check Perceptive Content Group and write-in “Graduate School folder”
  • For Banner 9 access - check “View all student forms,” "Advisor Access," and "Grad School Stipend"
  • For Banner 8 access - write-in “SZAGDGR, TZAGRSP, SZAPROT” 
  • Obtain signatures for the applicant and supervisor on page 2
  • Scan and email the form to sais@mtu.edu

On the Slate Access Request Form

  • Provide the contact information requested.
  • Check Graduate School Program Assistant
  • Obtain signatures as noted
  • Scan and email the form to sais@mtu.edu

Graduate Admissions Dashboard

Graduate Admissions Dashboard access is automatically granted to all Michigan Tech employees. The dashboard is housed within Webfocus Business Intelligence Portal and can be accessed by utilizing your ISO login and password. The dashboard contains graduate admission information and historical comparisons for all academic programs and the University at large.
