Senior Design

Senior Design

A major component of the chemical engineering undergraduate curriculum at Michigan Tech is the Senior Design experience, which occurs during the student’s senior year. Senior Design is six credits and lasts two semesters. This experience touches on both team and individual design problems graduates may face in industry. It also allows students to utilize material taught in the sophomore- and junior-level courses, as well as incorporates engineering economics, safety, and environmental topics covered in senior-level classes.

The following courses comprise the requirements of the chemical engineering senior design experience.

Senior Design emphasizes solid, practical training that prepares students to transition seamlessly to industry. Students tackle open-ended chemical engineering problems that reflect the work graduates will likely encounter on their first job.

Alternative to CM Design Laboratory

As an alternative to CM Design Laboratory (CM4861), chemical engineering students may choose to fulfill the 1-credit requirement through participation in the Enterprise Program or a design project originating in another University department. Students interested in choosing one of these alternative options must first receive department approval by filling out the Design Substitution Form and obtaining the appropriate signatures.
