  • BS Electrical Engineering 1965

Michael DeJonge '65 chose Michigan Tech because he received the Michigan High School Scholarship and decided he wanted to go into Electrical Engineering.

In his time at Michigan Tech, outside of class Michael enjoyed exploring the local waterfalls and enjoying nature of the Keweenaw.

Michigan Tech prepared Michael for California State College in Fullerton, where he went on to get his masters in Electrical Engineering. Michael says that his education from Michigan Tech was highly used in his aerospace engineering work.

After graduation, Michael’s first job was doing field service work installing and maintaining Inertial Navigation sensors on submarines and aircraft carriers. This experience then led him to system design for navigation and guidance equipment for aircraft.

Michael invented and developed Flight Management Systems for commercial and military aircraft. He received numerous industry recognition awards and was  issued eight patents for design features of Flight Management Systems.

Michael’s advice to students is: “Take all the math and science classes possible and study hard to learn the fundamental principles”  and “Volunteer to take on leadership roles in various fields. Belong to the 10 percent of people that are the "doers" instead of just being a follower.”
