Accreditation and Objectives

ABET Accreditation

ABET is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. ABET is a federation of 35 professional and technical societies representing these fields. Among the most respected accreditation organizations in the United States, ABET has provided leadership and quality assurance in higher education for over 90 years.

ABET accredits over 4,500 programs at 895 colleges and universities in 40 countries. Over 2,200 dedicated volunteers participate annually in ABET evaluation activities.

Mechanical Engineering Technology is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Mechanical Engineering Technology and Similarly Named Programs Program Criteria.

Mechanical Engineering Technology Program Educational Objectives

Program Educational Objectives (PEO) describe the attributes that we aspire for our graduates to possess three to five years after graduation. The BS degree program in Mechanical Engineering Technology will prepare graduates with the technical and managerial skills necessary to enter careers in analysis, applied design, development, implementation, or oversight of advanced mechanical systems and processes.

  • Utilizing their technical knowledge to collaborate in the improvement and creation of products and technologies that are viable and sustainable.
  • Communicating effectively both written and verbal.
  • Working in cross-functional teams providing expert knowledge.
  • Understanding and exhibiting professional, ethical and social responsibility as they pursue a career.
  • Assuming positions of technical and management leadership within their respective organizations.
  • Exercising continuous improvement, with a focus on quality and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Student Outcomes

The Mechanical Engineering Technology Student Outcomes (MET SO) capture the desired attributes that the MET program aspires to impart to its students through the curriculum and academic experience.

  • An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  • An ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  • An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  • An ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
  • An ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
