The 33rd Parade of Nations 2022
Since 1989, the Houghton and Hancock communities have been celebrating the rich cultural
diversity of the Keweenaw. We are excited to continue that tradition in 2022. This
year's theme is:
The World is One
2022 Parade of Nations Logo Contest Winner has been chosen!

Chiara Rapacci, a 17-year-old junior at Baraga High School, won this year’s Parade
of Nations logo contest. Her design will be the official logo of the Parade of Nations,
printed on T-shirts, flyers and other materials.
It’s incredibly appropriate that Chiara won, since the Parade of Nations celebrates
multiculturalism in the Keweenaw, and she is an exchange student from Italy, sponsored
by International Cultural Exchange Services (ICES), a nonprofit international high
school student exchange program. Her logo illustrates this year’s theme: The World
is One.
The Parade of Nations will take place on Saturday, September 17. Read more on our Facebook Page
Like every year, the Parade of Nations Committee is pleased to announce a logo contest,
inviting students from middle and high schools of the surrounding area to design and
submit logos appropriate to this year's theme, "The World is One". The logo should
be on plain white background, using solid colors (but no more than 5 colors), and
with no shading. The designer should sign their name outside the main artwork. Any
graphics must be original and not downloaded from the web. Want some inspiration to
get started? Check out the 2021 PON logo, or the PON Committee logo.
The logo contest deadline is May 15, with the winner to be announced shortly thereafter. The winner will receive a $300
prize, and their logo will be featured on the Parade of Nations T-shirts. Digital
copies (high resolution, at least 300 dpi) can be submitted through the logo submission Google form, or by emailing to ips@mtu.edu or paradeofnations@mtu.edu (write "LOGO CONTEST" in the subject line). Hard copies can be submitted physically
at the IPS office (Admin Building, Room 200, Michigan Tech University, Mon-Fri 8 am
to 5 pm).
Michigan Tech is offering a $1,000 scholarship for an essay contest winner.
Eligibility: High school seniors from the surrounding area who plan to attend Michigan Tech are
eligible to participate.
Topic: The essay has to focus on multiculturalism. Students will write about what multiculturalism
means to them and why it matters to them, their community, our country and the world.
Submission: The deadline for submission is June 30. Please email your submissions (in doc or pdf format) to paradeofnations@mtu.edu or ips@mtu.edu with "ESSAY CONTEST" written in the subject line, or fill out the essay contest Google form to submit. Alternatively, hard copies can be submitted physically at the IPS office
(Admin Building, Room 200, Michigan Tech University, Mon-Fri 8 am to 5 pm).
