UN 1014: College Writing and Reading focuses on rhetorical awareness, genre analysis, and writing for diverse audiences, purposes, and contexts. Students develop foundational skills and strategies in critical writing and reading for college with a focus on developing flexible writing processes.
Students in UN 1014 are introduced to the core academic literacy skills that will serve them as new college students. The writing projects include a literacy inventory, college reading analysis, digital community commentary, and source analysis, culminating in a portfolio based assessment at midterm and end points of the semester. Like UN 1015, the next course in the sequence, students are assessed on their progress toward the course learning outcomes and the essential abilities which are as follows:
