Biography:

Stephanie Rowe is Associate Teaching Professor of German and manager of the German program at Michigan Technological University. She directs the Topics in Germany faculty-led study abroad program, advises the German Club Registered Student Organisation, hosts a German film series and Stammtisch, and organizes a student-alumni social in Germany.

Rowe teaches courses ranging from first year German to German film, German literature and the German seminar.  She also teaches hiking and reflective travel journaling as components of a sustainability-focused study abroad.  She creates courses and adapts content in response to the curriculum goals of Michigan Tech and the challenges of the broader world.  Rowe delights in engaging with students  in an academically challenging environment.  She introduces students to German philosophers, scientists, musicians, artists, inventors, and literary writers, shedding light on historical periods and perspectives as well as providing insight into current events.  She appreciates the insights that students bring to the conversation.

Rowe enjoys engaging with students in the classroom, at German program events, on a chairlift at Mont Ripley, at Tech trails, or anywhere around town or farther afield.  Rowe encourages students to approach the world with curiosity, discipline, and an appreciation for life’s daily adventures.
